In a scathing attack on the communal forces, CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat stated that RSS and the Sangh Parivar are trying to polarize the people communally with an eye on the 2014 general elections. The recent spurt of communal violence reflects this design.

“ Today, we face major challenges from the forces which want to undermine democratic secular fabric of society. Such forces are getting more aggressive,” he said releasing the CPI(M) magazine “Mukhyadhara’ (Mainstream), meant exclusively for minority communities.

He pointed out that the Muzaffarnagar riots were not isolated incidents. Before that a series of communal incidents occurred in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and now in Bihar. Secular and democratic forces should come together to rebuff the challenges posed by communal forces.

Karat also pointed out that such incidents were taking place at a time when BJP was projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate at the behest of RSS. He accused that Congress led UPA government of being reluctant to implement the recommendation of Justice Rajinder Sachhar Committee which highlighted the plight of Muslims and their backwardness in areas such as education and employment. Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission report suggesting 10 percent reservation in jobs and education to the Muslim Community had also not implemented so far.

He also pointed out that the Left parties were able to mobilise fourteen secular parties on a common platform on October 30th  in defence of people’s unity and against communalism.

Prakash released the first copy of Mukhyadhara tri-monthly by handing over a copy to Kutbuddin Ansari. CPI (M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan delivered the keynote address. Dr. K T Jaleel, editor of the magazine also spoke about Mukhyadhara.

A seminar-On Minorities, Secularism, Communal Fascism was also organized on the occasion which was inaugurated by  Shabnam Hashmi. Prof. P T Abdul Latheef, Deputy Mayor of Kozhikode Corporation presided over the seminar. Dr. K K Usman, Dr. P A Fazal Gafoor, C K Abdul Azees, Dr. Khadija Mumtaz, Prof. A P Abdul Wahab, Jafar Atholi, Sahid Rumi, N Ali Abdulla, Dr. Jamal Muhammed, Dr. Hussain Randathani spoken in the seminar.
