Ashish Misra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ajay Misra Teni, the prime accused in the massacre of farmers has finally been arrested, after a Supreme Court indictment, five days later.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the invoking of the draconian Public Safety Act on former Chief Ministers of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. The former served under a BJP government as minister of state and the latter as Chief Minister of the state in coalition with the BJP, under oath of the Indian Constitution.
CPI(M) General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury, has addressed a letter to the Prime Minister today calling for the release of the detained persons in Kashmir, lifting of the clampdown on communications, restoration of the democratic process and honouring of the assurances made to the people at the time of the accession of the state to the Indian Union.
The Polit Bureau meeting discussed the ways and means for sustaining and advancing the peaceful protest movement against the CAA-NPR-NRC all over the country. It called for the unity of all secular and democratic forces to carry forward the movement.
The announcement by the Chief Election Commissioner, Jammu & Kashmir of Block Development Council polls in Jammu & Kashmir on October 24, is a travesty of democracy.
The Election Commission should seriously consider this issue and announce the schedule for the assembly election simultaneously.
The Central Committee congratulated the LDF government in Kerala for the manner in which they could contain the dreaded Nipah virus from spreading. The efforts of the state government have earned accolades from international agencies including the World Health Organisation.
Under these circumstances, plunging the state into greater uncertainty and the impending imposition of President’s rule may not help in addressing the issue of the deepening alienation of the people.
