The Left parties call upon all their units all across the country to raise these demands to pressurize the governments to implement these, through protest actions, taking into account the concrete conditions prevailing there, maintaining the needed physical distancing and wearing masks.
The much-awaited second tranche of the Rs. 20-lakh crore financial package regarding the migrant workers, farmers and the poor has turned out to be a cruel hoax. The Finance Minister’s speech made false claims of what the Central Government had done to help people.
The CPI(M) reiterates the demand that the government reverses its policy of reprehensible apathy towards the plight of the migrant workers and takes up their transportation free of cost and provide every migrant worker along with all non-tax paying citizens Rs. 7500 per month as cash support for three months and free rations to all needy.
It is sheer cruelty to expect workers who have absolutely no earnings for the last two months because of the lockdown to pay for their own train tickets. Nor can the State Governments bear this financial expenditure when they have not received any help whatsoever from the Central Government.
My previous communications to you listing out various measures that the central government must undertake to alleviate the sufferings of a vast section of our people during the lockdown have gone unanswered. In fact they have not even been acknowledged, which is unusual.
The people of the country who implemented the three week long lockdown ending today were looking forward to concrete measures that the government will undertake to resolve the problems that arose during these three weeks and provide the much needed relief for a large number of our poor, marginalised and migrant labour.
Many problems have surfaced in a sharp manner which need to be resolved urgently. Many of these were anticipated but unfortunately no remedial action was taken before the announcement of the lockdown.
