The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The five-member Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has given a signal verdict overturning the change of government in Arunachal Pradesh through Central intervention and upheld the inviolable federal character of our Constitution.
Following the Uttarakhand experience, this Supreme Court judgment poses a irrevocable question of political morality and accountability of this BJP-led Central Government. The Central Government must fix accountability for this unconstitutional decision.
The CPI(M) wants the Central Government to heed this verdict and stop its growing authoritarian tendency of invoking Central rule in states that have governments of opposition parties.
