A sanctuary for a buffer zone project which will displace 168 villages has been decided by the Jharkhand Govt in Latehar district in total violation of the Forest Rights Act as well as the Wild Life Protection Act. In the first phase, eight villages have been given notice in spite of the protest of the affected villagers.

Along with Jerome Khujru and Sunil Minz of the Jan Sangharsh Samiti , CPI-M leaders Comrades Brinda Karat, G.K.Bakshi and Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch State Convener Praful Linda, Virinder Singh and district leaders of the Party attended several gram sabhas in different villages on 25th August, 2017 in Garu block and heard the villagers strong opinions and resolve against displacement.

The villagers in this remote area gave a warm traditional welcome to the leaders and greeted the CPI(M) for its support. Comrade Brinda Karat said, “Main threat to the people of Jharkhand emanates from the Government, its leaders, its policies…the answer is unity, unity in struggle.”
