Comrade VS Achuthanandan hoisted the Red Flag at the Com. V V Dakshinamoorthy Nagar, Thrissur on February 22 morning to mark the beginning of the Kerala State Conference in the run-up to the 22nd Party Congress of the CPI(M).
Earlier on Wednesday, the rallies carrying torches from the memorial columns of 577 communist martyrs in Kerala converged at the Thekkinkadu maidan, Thrissur. The torches were received by Party State Secretary Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, and Polit Bureau Member Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan lit the flame in the cauldron at the conference venue.
Comrade Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the CPI(M), inaugurated the delegates’ session of the Conference. A total of 582 comrades – 475 delegates, 87 State Committee members, four invitees, 16 observers – are participating in the State Conference.
Following the inaugural session, Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan presented the work report. General discussion on the report happened on February 23, after group discussions on the same. The leadership replied to the discussions on 24 February.
The Conference concluded on the 25th evening, with a march of 25,000 red volunteers and a public meeting where more than 200,000 people participated.
Comrade Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has been elected as State Secretary of the Kerala State Committee in the state conference; He is also Polit Bureau Member of the party.
