CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly, Surjya Kanta Mishra has demanded that “Mamata Banerjee should tell the people of Bengal whether she supports forces active against the secular identity of Bangladesh.” He was addressing a mass meeting organized in memory of late comrade Binoy Konar in Burdwan on October 11. Mishra alleged that “A total Rs 80 crore Saradha money has gone to Bangladesh through hawala channels to support those who were opposing the Shahbag movement in Bangladesh.” He wanted the NIA team to question the Burdwan police superintendent about his role during the blast.
Mishra criticized Mamata Banerjee’s new-found love for federalism in her recent Facebook post. “Mamata Banerjee is now opposed to the NIA probe citing the federal structure of the Constitution. What was she doing when the NIA Act was passed in Parliament? While the Left moved amendments arguing that the Centre should engage the NIA after consultation with respective state governments, the TMC wholeheartedly supported the Bill, Mishra said.
