Responding to the call given by the Kerala State Committee of the CPI(M) a massive struggle against cooking gas price hike and price hike of essential commodities was launched on January 15 with an indefinite hunger strike in 1400 centres in Kerala. 10 centres each in all 140 assembly constituencies witnessed a mass mobilisation today morning. The hunger strike started at 1400 centres throughout the state at sharp 10.a.m.
 
CPI (M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the struggle at Vyttila in Eranakulam district. Politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan inaugurated the struggle at Housing Board junction at Thiruvananthapuram. Central committee members A Vijayaraghavan, Paloli Muhammed Kutty, P Karunakaran, Dr. Thomas Issac, P K Srimathi, M C Josephine also inaugurated the hunger strikes at various centres.  
 
The strike was against the sudden increase in the LPG price and the central government’s move linking subsidies with Aadhar cards.
At each centre a local leader is sitting on hunger strike. Many CPI(M) workers also stay on fast in solidarity. Left Democratic front leaders and leaders and workers from various other political parties as well are visiting these pandals.
