A 28-year-old Dalit man’s family in Telangana’s Peddapalli district has alleged that he was killed on March 14 for being in love with an upper-caste woman. They were planning to get married after taking permission from her parents. But they were against it and warned Madhukar.
Madhukar’s eye was gouged out and that there were injuries all over his body — which was found in bushes near a canal. The family alleged that the woman’s relatives had lured Madhukar and bludgeoned him to death.
Madhukar was victim of a so-called “honour killing”. We demand for a fair probe into the suspicious death of Dalit youth Manthani Madhukar .
In Tripura there is not a single case of “honour killing”has happened till now we have not even heard about it.
A man in Uttar Pradesh has murdered not only his teenage daughter but also her boyfriend after he found them talking. The police have subsequently arrested him, and are treating this as a case of honour killing.
The accused has been identified as a resident of the Kulpahar region in the Mahoba district of UP. He subsequently told the police he had killed his 19-year-old daughter Geeta to save the honour of his family.
It may be noted that 68 percent of all honour killings that took place in the country in 2015 were in Uttar Pradesh, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
We demand a special law to deal with so called crimes in the name of honour, and maintenance of separate and proper records of these particular crimes. We reiterate these demands in light of the recently released data.
