The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The six Left parties had decided yesterday to observe a week-long mass mobilization of protest from November 24 to 30 against the miseries imposed on the people due to the withdrawal of the 1000 and 500 rupee notes.
The opposition parties in Parliament have now decided, through separate calls by parties, to observe November 28 as an All India Protest Day – Akrosh Divas.
The CPI(M) calls upon all its units across the country to organize an All India Protest Day on November 28 against the withdrawal of the 1000 and 500 rupee notes and the consequent anarchy it has caused in the country and the consequent mounting agonies of the vast majority of our people, particularly the poor and the marginalized sections.
Depending on the concrete conditions in each state, the CPI(M) state committees will decide on various forms of actions – mass demonstrations, dharnas, picketing of RBI and Central government offices, rasta rokos, rail rokos, commercial and general hartal etc. These actions will be organized in consultation with other Left parties and allies. The principal demand should be that till alternative arrangements of making new currency notes available is put in place or till December 30, the deadline issued by the Central Government, the 1000 and 500 rupee notes should be allowed for all legal transactions, payments and settlements.
