The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
On the MoU between the US and Iran
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) notes with optimism the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and the United States of America (USA). This is expected to bring much-needed relief to people across the globe, who have been severely affected by the unwarranted US-Israel aggression against Iran.
The MoU states that both parties will respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries and enforce a ceasefire until the final agreement is signed. The US will remove its blockade on Iranian ships transiting from the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran will allow the passage of ships through the Strait. This will ease the pressure on the availability of energy and fertilisers.
Oil prices in the energy markets have already seen a decline, and the Government of India should take immediate steps to reduce the increased prices of gas, petrol, and diesel. The government should also take urgent measures to ensure the availability of fertilisers, particularly urea, to our farmers.
The MoU demonstrates the limits of imperialist aggression. The people of Iran have not succumbed to imperialist machinations but have resisted the US-Israel attacks. The US was forced to lift sanctions on Iran and agree to unfreeze the seized Iranian assets. It has also agreed to pay reparation for the damages .The Government of Iran should utilise these resources to address the immediate economic problems of its people and bring succour to their lives.
The US was compelled to sign this MoU due to growing popular anger against its aggression on Iran. People from the US and various other countries joined these protests, which prompted the governments of their respective countries to demand an immediate end to the US aggression.
Israel should heed popular sentiment, desist from attacking Lebanon and adhere to the UN Charter. The Government of India should realise, at least now, that global public sentiment is against the US and Israel and should desist from aligning with them.
