J&K State Secretary of CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, People’s Democratic Forum chief Hakeem Yasin, former member of Parliament Abdul Rashid Kabuli and Lok Janshakti Party (Youth) president Sanjay Saraf have demanded an enquiry, headed by a Supreme Court judge, into the former army chief General (retired) V.K.Singh’s revelations related to Jammu & Kashmir.
Addressing a joint press conference on September 29, these leaders said that they were concerned and astonished over alleged misuse of defence funds. “We feel that the import of these revelations, which have undermined the whole democratic process, has far more serious implications than what meets the eye in Jammu & Kashmir”, they said. “a credible, transparent, thorough investigation is the need of the hour to clear the air”, they said.
Mr.Tarigami said that the expose had pointed to an institutional decay loaded with serious ramifications for survival of democracy, particularly in J & K where “huge sacrifices have been made by the people to strengthen this process. Any overt or covert intervention from the security apparatus in political domain is harmful and does not augur well for the democracy. It is advisable that all the security agencies confine themselves to their defined mandate.”
