CPI(M) activists held a massive protest demonstration on January 15 in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district against irregular power supply, dismal functioning of public distribution system, scarcity of essential commodities and safe drinking water. The protesters marched from Bus Stand, carrying placards, banners and shouting slogans. It culminated into a public rally at Mini Secretariat which was addressed by various party leaders.
CPI(M) leaders lamented the Power Distribution Department for its failure to address the situation created due to damaged transformers where consumers are left helpless in darkness for weeks together. About Public Distribution System, they said that a substantial number of families have been left unregistered with Consumer Affairs Public Distribution {CAPD} and are forced to procure rations from the open market at unaffordable prices. The protesters also demanded early restoration of frozen water pipelines to ensure smooth supply of safe drinking water to the people.
