CPI{M} and CPI held a protest in Ludhiana on January 25 against rise in prices of essential commodities including LPG and petrol, deteriorating law & order situation and other anti-people policies of the state government. The protesters gathered near the railway station and then marched to the Clock Tower chowk.
Addressing the gathering, CPI{M} and CPI leaders slammed the state government for imposing taxes to the tune of 9000 crores on the public in the form of property tax, increase in bus fares and hike in vehicle registration rates. They also criticised the government for alleged delay in disbursement of salaries and pensions of employees and also depositing LPG subsidy in beneficiaries’s accounts. The protestors claimed that law & order situation under the SAD-BJP regime had reached the lowest ebb in the recent period and all sections of the people, particularly women, feel unsafe.
