A meeting of the State Secretariat of Punjab CPI(M) was held on January 20, 2016.
Comrade Charan Singh Virdi, State Secretary issuing a Press statement about the decisions of the State Secretariat meeting stated that the Congress cannot provide any solution to the problems and issues plaguing Punjab and its people since they pursue the same anti people Neo- Liberal policies which are pursued by the Akali – BJP government in Punjab. Evaluating the conferences by various political parties at Maghi Mela he further said the Aam Aadmi Party is also failing in presenting any positive agenda of solutions based on alternative pro people policies. In the prevailing situation, he asserted that Left Front alone can provide a pro people Left and democratic political alternative which can give relief to the people in the state. He blamed the anti people policies of Akali-BJP government for uninterrupted price rise, unemployment, bullying tactics of the ruling forces, corruption, police atrocities, increase in social crimes against women and dalits and declared that the struggle on 15 points demand charter containing burning demands of the working people and democratic model of development of Punjab will be made broadbased and intensified . He said that the CPI(M) won’t contest the Khadoor Sahib by- election.
Comrade Virdi said that CPI(M) will extend full support to the dharna and demonstrations programme of various democratic mass organizations at district headquarters on 29th January, 2016 against black law ‘ Punjab Prevention Of Damage To Public And Private Property Act- 2014 ‘ and demanded immediate scrapping of the draconian law. Condemning the Pathankot terrorist attack , Comrade Virdi demanded strong action against the derelict police officers involved in the incident and terrorist forces who want to disturb the communal harmony , peace and harm the unity and integrity of the country and also sabotage the ongoing talks between India and Pakistan.
He further informed that a General Body meeting of the party will be held on 30th January, 2016 at Bhakna Bhawan , Chandigarh in which Central leaders will report about the decisions of the Organisational Plenum held at Kolkata from 27-31 December, 2015 and intervention of CPI(M) in current political situation prevailing in the country and future tasks of the party. Comrade Virdi said that the meeting expressed shock and serious concern over the death due to suicide of a dalit scholar, Rohit Vemule of Hyderabad University because of victimization under pressure from the BJP, ruling party at the centre. The meeting condemned the incident and demanded action against the culprits who are responsible for the suicide of the scholar.
