Shyamali Gupta finally departed from her comrades and friends on November 26 afternoon with the funeral procession carrying her body through the streets of Kolkata. CPI(M) central committee member and all India leader of democratic women’s movement Comrade Shyamali Gupta died on November 25.
In the morning of November 26, Comrade Shyamali Gupta’s body was taken to her home. Buddhadev Bhattacharjee and others paid their respect there. From there her body was taken to the AIDWA West Bengal state committee office. All India leadership of AIDWA, including Brinda Karat, Sudha Sundarraman, Jagmmati Sangwan, Sathyabati, Ashalata, Malini Bhattacharya, Rama Das, Tapashi Praharaj were present. State AIDWA leaders including Banani Biswas, Minati Ghosh, Rekha Goswami and others paid their tearful salutes to Comrade Shyamalidi.
From there the body was taken to CPI(M) state committee office. Polit Bureau member Nirupam Sen laid Red Flag on her body. Biman Basu, Md Amin, Brinda Karat and other Central Committee members paid their last respects there. CPI(M) state and district leaders, leaders of mass organizations also laid flowers on the body. From there the accompanied by hundreds of people the body was taken to the crematorium.
